been a productive day
I measure productivity in terms of pages: If I've actually written more than I've deleted, my page number will go up (but only in two-page increments because of the way LaTeX formats things). I got bumped up another two pages today, which means forward progress. I'm working on chapter 7, which goes with the appendix I posted on Friday. Only text in black is real -- the text in red is left-over from a paper on the same topic I wrote about a year ago, and which is being whole-sale upgraded and rewritten.
Given my upbringing (strongly evangelical but non-denominational) and my current religious beliefs (much the same but with a pretty strong anti-church/organized religion sentiment), I'm finding writing this chapter a bit weirder than I expected. I've isolated two issues causing the weirdness. First, in all my research, there's an underlying "Who cares?" question which needs to be answered. In the case of this particular chapter, the question is quite a bit louder than for some other chapters, such as chapter 4 (about which someone must've cared, since an earlier version was published over summer). Second, I'm much less familiar with/comfortable with Catholic theology, and it just feels...weird...even though the dogmas which I'm treating are ones which are held by non-Catholic denominations too.
