Yes, this, a lot of this. If I narrow my target audience to myself, and write what I want to write and what I want to read, it feels a lot less problematic to say "this is really good", because what I am saying is "this objectively fits my subjective preferences and desires"; it's when I do any sort of comparison with other people that it becomes uncomfortable to articulate that I still think my writing is good, in a somewhat more objective way that isn't based on subjective preferences.
