When the new Dr. Who season started a few months ago, Joel and I got into the groove of making pizza and watching it each Saturday night. This pleased me greatly because it's an echo of my family tradition of mom making pizza and us watching Star Trek every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. This was the first time in a very long time (14 or 15 years) that I've actually regularly watched a TV show, so it came as something of a surprise to me to find that the season was ending so soon!! Now what are we going to do on Saturday nights??

Watch Dr. Who, it turns out. Joel found a site where we can download episodes from previous seasons, so we're going to get the two that I missed from this season, and then watch all of last's, and then head back to the beginning and start from there. I figure a couple episodes a Saturday night should keep is in business for a long time.

And maybe if we ever finish that, we can go and do the same for Star Trek, both Old Trek and New Trek (anything after New Trek doesn't count as real Star Trek). I had a fabulous afternoon in that respect - BBC2 played the pilot episodes of both Old Trek and New Trek. I think I'd seen the former before, but I'd never seen the latter. Oh gosh was it great fun to see all the actors and hear the theme music and the phrases and the little sound effects...Star Trek was the only TV we watched when I was a kid (well, some Sundays we'd watch "America's Funniest Home Videos", but only under duress.) I never watched Sesame Street, I never watched Saturday morning cartoons, whatever else was playing during the '80's I never saw either, but we watched Star Trek religiously, and so the theme music from the show brings back 3/7 of the first 10 years of my childhood. That, and memories of dad singing along to the theme music (oh, scarred for life because of that!) So I had fun today.
