addendum to yesterday

I just realized I forgot one of the more amusing parts of the day yesterday. Next to the Binnenhof is a small, man-made lake, and as Joel was taking some pictures of the flags hanging down over it from the bridge we were on, a tourist, with his wife and older daughter, asked me if I knew what it was called; I didn't, so I called Joel over because he'd been reading the guidebook and so maybe he knew. He didn't, but the man who'd asked me saw his Iowa State T-shirt, and asked, "Are you from Iowa?" It turns out that this gentleman had studied at Ames as well, though before Joel's time, and that he and his wife had just recently moved to Amsterdam where his wife is a student at the UvA. How wonderfully coincidental! There just can't be that many people from Iowa State who end up in Amsterdam at the UvA.
