So, I have this lime green bath towel which my parents got either as a wedding gift or soon after they got married. (Mom used my sister and I moving off to college as an excuse to buy new towels, and we got the old ones). It's so old and used that it has no nap left. It's so ragged that we had to serge around the edges to keep it from unravelling. It hardly absorbs water any more (we use it primarily as a rag instead of a bath towel).

And yet, every time it goes through the dryer, the lint in the lint trap is bright green. Just how on earth does this towel have enough left in it to not only shed lint, but shed LOTS of lint? One of the unsolved mysteries of my life...

Tonight we're meeting for dinner someone [livejournal.com profile] sharikkamur knows from Iceland who moved with his wife to Amsterdam at the beginning of the month. She'd put me in touch with him when they were looking for housing, and I was able to help them find something temporary for this month until they can move into something more permanent in September. He's starting his Ph.D. in the computer science department, so we'll probably have lots in common to talk about. We know hardly any other young married couples, so this should be a pleasant evening. In the meantime, I'm making focaccia for this weekend; I figure 7-10 loaves should do to serve ~23 people. I've got two finished, one rising, and as soon as the water drains out of the sink (yes, it's plugged again, no, we don't know what to do to keep it from plugging so regularly), I'll start up another batch. My goal is to get five loaves done today.
