So, ever since our successful trip out to Almeer, we've been intending to go biking again. A couple Sundays were rainy, one I was gone, others Joel was in the midst of something he didn't want to break his train of concentration on. But yesterday was one of those gorgeous fall days - cool, but sunny, windy but not with a chill, and so we thought we'd tried going biking again today.

It seems to happen pretty often, though, that if it's gorgeous in Saturday, it's rainy on Sunday, and today was no exception, though as the afternoon waned, the sun kept poking its head out, and we were optimistic. But first Joel had to put his rear tire back on - we found two weekends ago that he'd gotten a puncture on our previous outing, so he got a repair kit and fixed it. Then we had to go to the store to buy a thing of water and some snacks for the half-way point. Then we got about a block and a half, and Joel had to stop because his handle bars were clearly loose. Troop back home...can't find the right wrench. Made do with another one, got everything tightened back up, we head outside - just as the skies open up and it starts pouring. It didn't last long, but that was enough for us to decide maybe today wasn't the day. So, we're back for a quiet peaceful afternoon at home. It is a nice day to spend inside, and we're going to make French onion soup for supper, and I'm about 5/6 of the way into Jane Eyre (which is the first of anything by the Brontë sisters that I've ever read, amazingly), and I've hardly been able to put it down since I started it Friday evening. Oh, I should've been born in the 19th century. I was born to wear fancy dresses, and go riding, to wander the foggy hills of England pondering my future, have rich men fell in love with me...*swoon*. Ah, I'm wasted as a 21st century logician who does all her own housework, usually wears jeans, and is happily married to a pauper.

Today is some sort of holiday, though I'm not sure what - the market across the street is open (it's usually closed on Sundays), and there's been a brass band playing occassionally throughout the day; I just heard the refrain of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic".
