I can post one of the scrolls I did in October. This is a panache (Arts & Sciences) scroll, for [livejournal.com profile] jgpsawyer:

Thomas's panache

The documentation and discussion can be read here.

I was just given books. With the move of the departments in our building to a new building in the science park, the library downstairs is culling books for which there are duplicates in other parts of the library system. So I just inherited Aristotle's Modal Syllogisms, Die Lehre Der Proprietates Terminorum Sinn Und Referenz in Mittelalterlicher Logik, and Truth and consequence in mediaeval logic. It's nice being the only person around who does research in some particular field.

I hope to catch up on the events of last week and the weekend over the rest of the day, and if I do there will be more book goodness later today!

Brussels

I nearly missed my train to Brussels Tuesday evening, because the tram I got on ended up getting rerouted and taking an extra 10 minutes to get to central station, and just as I got into the station I heard an announcement saying my train was leaving four minutes early. Luckily, that was still sufficient for me to rush up to a sandwich counter, dash my eyes over the choices, point at one and say "I want one of those!", pay, grab it, run, and catch the train. ('Cause otherwise there would've been no supper for me, and that would not have been good at all.) Even with leaving early the train got into Brussels a bit late, and I spent a good 10 minutes circling Brussels central until I could finally orient myself on the map to walk to my youth hostel (which was only a 10 minute walk once I was on the right route). Tuesday morning when I'd woken up, it was extremely foggy out (as in, almost impossible to see across the canal foggy), and unlike in the midwest where a foggy morning often burns off by the afternoon, the fog remained the entire rest of the day -- and not only that, but it was just as foggy in Brussels as it was in Amsterdam. On my way to the hostel I passed a skyscraper which had blue lights playing on the side of it, and even though it was only a few blocks off I couldn't see where the building ended and the sky began, it was so foggy.

Because my flight to University was early Friday morning, I could only attend the first two days of the conference there, but even the two days was better from nothing; I got to hear some interesting talks, and see a whole bunch of people who had also been at the conference in Montreux June last summer, and it was good to see them again. I had about half an hour each morning to wander around the area by the Hogeschool, and came across a lovely cathedral with a square with benches in it, where I sat to eat breakfast both mornings. But other than that I didn't get to see much of the city; I was still not feeling well and on Wednesday I went back to my hostel and by 8pm I was asleep, and slept through until 9am the next morning (well, if you ignore waking up around 6:30am when the construction workers in the building next store started working...)

I had to duck out of the end of the question period for the final talk on Thursday, to get my train, but I got back into Amsterdam around 8:30pm, which gave me enough time to unpack my Brussels bag, finish packing my University bag, and watch some Buffy and Angel with Joel before heading off to bed, with my alarm set at 7am. (Ugh).

April 8 (when Joel left for Paris) to November 9 (when I got back from Kingdom University) is 215 days.

Of that 215 days, we spent 107 apart, 68 together in the Netherlands, and 35 together in places other than the Netherlands. (And that's only 210; I'm not sure where I lost five days in my calculations but it's too much work to go and recalculate). In any case, the stats are roughly the same: over the course of the last 7 months, we've spent roughly 3 apart, 2 together at home, and 1 together travelling.

I'm planning to go to Coronation in January, but then my next trip planned isn't until the Anselm conference in Canterbury in April. I don't think Joel's next trip is planned yet.

I am SO glad to be done with travelling, or having my husband travelling, for at least three months! And I hope we don't ever have a year like this again.
