today in Bologna
Jun. 9th, 2010 10:22 pmStill waiting for FB's java applet for uploading photos to work correctly, so figured I'd write another update.
This morning was the obligatory (which should not be taken as implying boring) conference excursion; we got a tour, in English, of the 7 churches of Santo Stefano, by one of the twelve Benedictine monks living there. After that we ducked in to a few other neat places on our way to the medieval civic museum, where they didn't give us nearly enough time in the room with the antiphonals. I barely got pictures of each of them before we were hurried out.
Had a lovely lunch in a little trattoria off Via Clavature, a local speciality, tortolloni di zucca (pumpkin). Yummy! Our table of five split two bottles of wine, which meant then I had the hardest time keeping awake during the first post-lunch talk. (It's been in the low 30s the entire time, and the room we're in has no fan or air-conditioning.)
After the afternoon session was over, came back to the hotel to sort through my photos, and then met up, with a smaller group than originally planned, for dinner at another good restaurant, just off "Via dell'Inferno", which amused me. Now I'm just waiting on FB for photos...when they're up, I'll post the link here. But it may not happen tonight; I'm about ready to go to bed now! Tomorrow we have a full schedule -- 4 talks in the morning, 3 in the afternoon, and then the conference dinner at 8:00pm. So...best to get some sleep!
