Double Wars recap, part 1
May. 19th, 2012 02:39 pmThis was my first Double Wars, and I went primarily for curia Wednesday morning. I was going to go Tuesday and return Thursday but then flights were cheaper returning Friday so I decided to go ahead and do the extra day. I'm glad! It was long enough for me to get lots of things done but without feeling rushed, and short enough that I didn't get too worn out traveling with Gwen alone. I was surprised to find how different SCA traveling is from academic traveling; easier in some ways, but much more difficult in others.
Things didn't start off the greatest, it was actually touch and go for awhile as to whether I'd actually go. Monday I was tired and though I went to bed somewhat early sometime later I realized I was lying in bed and hadn't fallen asleep and it was probably between 11:00-11:30pm (I never checked the time so I don't know for sure). And then I realized that ( my guts weren't feeling the greatest, )
So when the alarm went off in the morning I wasn't sure if I was feeling up to the 1.5 hour train ride to the airport, the flight, another hour train ride to site, all while hauling Gwen in the babybjorn (and hence having a lot of her weight sitting on my guts) and toting my wheeled suitcase, her diaperbag, and another shoulder bag filled with books. I felt well enough to try going just about when I needed to go catch the bus, and I did eventually make it to Sweden, but it was not a fun trip. I was still feeling too nasty to have more than a spoonful or two of applesauce in the morning, lunch was a packet of pretzels on the plane, and then half an hour after I got on site was the chiv meeting, where I was saddened to be smart enough to not take part in the provided beer, since beer on a basically empty stomach after having been ill would've been a bad idea.
I didn't really start feeling back to normal until Thursday, but luckily it didn't interfere too much with the trip, once I got there.
Gwen is awake, will finish this later.
