She has definitely inherited her facial structure from her grandfather! Joel's dad has the same squarish face and cheeks. For the first 7 weeks or so, we kept wondering whom she looked like, because neither of us thought she looked much like either of us, and then when we were visiting his parents after Christmas, I saw Gwen and Bernie together and it was suddenly totally obvious whom she looks like!
Without a doubt she's a little feminine version of Bernie. And yes, it took until that photo at Christmas for me to see it. Funny, because Joel doesn't especially look like his dad to me - he looks so much like Rita! but there's a pretty direct genetic line from Bernie to Gwen. ;)
I also think Joel looks like Rita, though he thinks he doesn't really look like either. I keep meaning to email Rita to see if she can ask Bernie's sister (who's got all the family photos from the Uckelmans) to dig out some baby pictures of Bernie. I'd love to compare!
