I have become the sort of person

...who dashes out from her university lecture in a grand lecture theatre to hop into a pre-booked taxi ready and waiting to whisk her off to the airport where she'll head to another country for the rest of the week, to give two talks in two different cities and be interviewed for a podcast series.

I still find this maximally weird sometimes, and am not quite sure how it happened.

Love to read this! I picture your purple hair flowing in the wind as you step in that taxi ;-)
We live in this grand place at herengracht in Amsterdam and it still feels like a dream every now and then, especially when I explain it to people I meet.

It was pretty windy -- it was POURING down with rain during my lecture, and I was glad to only dash across the parking lot, rather than walk to the train station in it!

Oh, wow, on the Herengracht! That's gorgeous. We lived on the Singel across from the Dappermarkt, and I still don't know how we ended up so lucky. That definitely contributed to 6 years of "Is this really ME?"
