I am actually somewhat surprised that Gwen hasn't cottoned on to reading yet -- because she has ALL the skills necessary. Around about 3.5 I figured she'd be reading around age 4, as I did; but now she's nearly 5 and it hasn't happened, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest (other than that I'm looking forward to when she can as it will make entertaining her on long train trips so much easier!). I'm just so amazed at how much her nursery teachers were able to "teach" the kids without actually having taught them anything. Because, yeah, Gwen and I do plenty of talking about things, but never did I ever sit down with her to teach her, e.g., letter forms, and she can do both capitals and lower case in a very precise fashion.
