My little sister (2 and a half years younger than me) learned her reading at the same time I did. I was in pre-school and getting phonetics (this was in the early 60's). I came home and repeated what I had learned - several times - every day and she listened and learned right along with me. When we moved states and she started kindergarten, she was already reading! The teacher had never had a reader before (many years in the same school, so kind of surprising) and that year she had my sister and two others!
So, Go Gwen! She is getting what sounds like an Awesome growing up/learning experience and I am so very glad she still likes school so much!
