my book haul from the last week

I got home last night a little bit before midnight, uneventfully. Joel's flight to Singapore (and thence to Sidney) leaves at 8:45 this evening.

I realize I never spoke of getting from Stratford to Nancy. Not much happened; I got up around 6:30 to get to the Stratford train station a little after 7am, took the train from there to London Marylebone, then the tube to St. Pancras; there I took the Eurostar to Paris (which was cool, I now have one of the "entering by train" stamps in my passport), though I fell asleep about 5 min. out of St. Pancras and so totally missed the Chunnel. From Paris I had about an hour and a half before the next train to Nancy, which I also slept through most of; I got into my hotel in Nancy around 6pm, so all told 11 hours traveling of which most of it was sleep, which I really needed at that point!

So, my book haul from the last week:

• What's in a Name? (a dictionary of London tube station names)


• Stemmi delle Famiglie Patrizie di Venezia (which doesn't have an entry in any of Amazon.com, .co.uk, or .de that I can find, so I'll have to enter it into LibraryThing by hand)


• Dictionary of British Arms vol. 2 (we were told at the CoA that vol. 3 should be out by the end of the year!!


• Reaney's Origins of English Place-Names


• The Surnames of Devon


• Hitching & Hitching


• Nordiskt Runnamnslexikon -- not for me specifically but for the Pelican library.


• English Surnames Series II: Norfolk and Suffolk in the Middle Ages


• The Surnames of Sussex


• A photocopy of vol. 1 (1521-1558) of The Irish Fiants of the Tudor Sovereigns


• Advances in Modal Logic Volume 7

WHAT a haul. You are quite the shopper.

Also: More info on pre-searching items in WorldCat before adding them in LibraryThing (no, I don't know why the entry is in English but all the page navigation/headers are in Russian)

I'd never thought of searching WorldCat for librarything (don't ask me why, I feel rather dumb that it never occured to me! :)). If it didn't have an ISBN, LC call number, or turn up in any of the amazon.X's, then I'd put in a record with just the bare bones -- author, title, publisher, date, language. Next time I'll remember the WorldCat trick.

I know I've got a lot of books on librarything that no one else on librarything has, but having something that even WorldCat doesn't have is pretty cool. :)
