I spent the day rewriting the five definitions from yesterday. They now take up even more space and are even uglier and more ad hoc than before (though one might question whether definitions can be ad hoc, since they are stipulative by definition).

Certainly one might question it. In philosophy one might question anything and everything. Indeed, some might claim one is expected to.

I tried reading through your definitions, but rapidly came to the realization that I need the meta-dictionary to make sense of them. Ah, well.

That's OK. I thought I was doing something fairly straightforward/standard, especially in the definition of 'term', but when I ran in to problems and asked an office mate for help, and I quickly sketched my def. of term he got hung up on that before I even moved to the real problem.

Which again makes me feel like I haven't quite latched on to the right way to describe things, but at least for now I'm not going to worry about it over the weekend any more.
