anteaters!
Jan. 15th, 2006 02:39 pmToday it was so nice and sunny out that Joel and I decided to go take a walk. We live a block away from the Artis Zoo, and we've never been in it yet, so we figured we'd try to find the entrance, and see what the hours and prices are. The zoo is bounded on one side by the canal that's just across the street from the street that bounds our block; on another Plantage Middenlaan which is one street east of where the ILLC is located; on a third by a street on which the entrance is located, and on the fourth by another canal with, on the opposite side, a wide brick pedestrian walkway. We'd never been on that fourth side before so we walked up there, and then circled around. We didn't go into the zoo because, being Sunday, it was full of families and kids and it was getting kind of cold out, but as we were walking back down Plantage Middenlaan there's a section of the street which looks directly on the zoo; you are as close to some of the fenced in areas from the sidewalk as you would be if you were inside the zoo. And as we walked past, I saw a movement in the bushes, and it was an anteater! I've never seen an anteater before, but it looks just like pictures of it look. It looked like a big fluffy furry stuffed animal. I hadn't realized that they are so big, or that their tails are so huge! It was bounding around its pen in a frolicsome fashion. Very cute! It made my day.
