Thanksgiving #2

That's what we had here in Iowa today; Rita made a turkey, and we had that with fixings in the midafternoon. Gwen, as usual, loved all of it.

And the fun isn't over! We'll be doing Thanksgiving back in Heidelberg, next Sunday. We actually have a couple of American friends that we can invite over; Thanksgiving is a weird holiday to invite non-Americans over for (though this hasn't stopped us in the past!), and if we don't invite anyone we don't have any reason to go all out. We enjoy having people over, so I'm glad that we've got a reason to cook something fancy.

I happened to notice the other day that I created this account on 2005-11-25, eight years ago today. 1582 entries (not counting this one) later, I've certainly had a lot to say. I started this as something in lieu of sending out mass emails to friends/family updating them on our lives in Europe, and over the years it's become a place to rant, record amusing factoids, tell stories of our trips, post pictures, think, and, most recently, a baby book for Gwen.

I still occasionally write in my paper journal (which I've kept since I was 10), but that is generally for things which don't need to be shared with the world, or for things where I need the different act of thinking through via long-hand writing rather than typing. Recent years have gotten rather slim; I need to get in the habit of bringing my journal with me when I travel, since that's when I have the itch to write the most.
