Tradition at the ILLC is that people bring in some type of dessert on their birthdays, and everyone who is around the dept. will gather for cake, tea, and coffee. Since my birthday is tomorrow, I thought I'd bring in something today, so I made a strawberry tart. Strawberries are only just coming in to season, but with a bit of raspberry jam on top, you can't tell that they aren't quite as ripe as they could have been. Alot of people weren't around, because of the math logic colloquia in Utrecht this afternoon, and the DIP colloquia over in the phil. dept., but that just meant that those of us who were there, were able to have seconds if we wanted. The tart went over really well, people thought it was very tasty. I'm pleased. I do enough baking that I would've felt a bit of a cad just buying something at the grocery store to bring (even though that's often what others do and there have been some quite good things), and I didn't want to just make a cake out of a box, because that's boring, and that's not REAL baking. So I'm pleased that it turned out and that people liked it.
