ETA: post-unlocked (24apr11) since now both sets of grandparents know.
I talked to someone fairly recently (unfortunately I forget who), who told me that their experience had been that children just Did Not Play in Drachenwald, for whatever reason. I think it's probably the same thing that used to happen in my neck of the woods for some number of years before my family started playing -- there's a catch-22 of no one wanting to be the first family carting around a small child, because there are no other small children for them to play with. So people who do have small children tend to stop playing entirely instead.
But once there *is* a steady core of small kids, it snowballs like crazy before you know it. Which is good!
