I should go on vacation more often

Friday and Monday were university holidays, and I ended up taking yesterday off as well since it was the last day of Mom and Owen's visit. Today Joel and I ended up sleeping late (in part because we were up in the middle of the night; I woke up because I heard Widget trying to get into the package of rhubarb I'd bought earlier, and which I'd just set on top of the fridge because it's so long I didn't think it would fit in the fridge. So I stumbled out of bed, without my glasses of course, to try to shove it into the fridge wherever it would fit. In doing so, it slipped out of my hand, knocked a container of sauteed cherry tomatoes off a shelf, which fell, open, on the floor, hitting, and breaking, a bottle of Becherovka on the way. There I was, unable to see a thing, standing in a puddle of tomatoes, booze, and glass.), not getting out of bed until about 11:30, and hence not getting out to the office until nearly 1pm.
But in the next four hours I accomplished more than I can usually accomplish in a full day:
- looked over galley proofs for a journal paper and sent off the corrections.
- looked over galley proofs for a book review and sent off the corrections.
- caught up on the email I'd like accumulate over the weekend.
- created two bibliographies, one for a student of mine, one for a student of a colleague.
- dealt with a bunch of travel arrangement plans (checked out the prices of train tickets to Nancy for CLMPS in July; started looking for a place in Vienna for June and July; transferred Jesse his half of the ESF money).
- wrote some commentary and answered some heraldic requests.
- and got to have lunch on the terrace (until we went inside because it's turned cooler again today) with Joel.
If only I could always be this productive.
