aryanhwyOccasionally I read about people (women) complaining about their husbands spending all their time on their computers, and they end up feeling lonely, neglected, etc.
This totally doesn't bother me, in part because from day one, the way we've spent a lot of quality time together is sitting at our respective computers. When we were first hanging out, I really appreciated this. I had spent the previous year living on my own, just me and Slinky, and had gotten used to spending all my time at my computer with my music on singing. (Now, because this guy that I was spending a lot of time with was one that I hoped to continue spending a lot of time with, I recognized right away that singing aloud along with the music had to go. And he wasn't one to always have something playing, so I had to get used to sitting in silence.) I was productive with all my computer time and I didn't especially want to give that up. So to find out that we're perfectly happy spending quality time -- and that it really is quality time -- together each at our own computers was really a big plus. We've always had our computers in the same room, often within touching distance of each other. Even so (and people laugh at this) we often use IM to communicate. It's nice because then you can still talk to the other person without interrupting them when they're in the middle of something involving a lot of thought or short-term memory, e.g., counting, or coding.
I'm tired enough that I'm stumbling a bit over my words in trying to say what I want to say, so rather than build up the intro/discussion further, let me just say the point of this entry is to say that Joel and I are sitting on the floor together (on cushy purple blankets I picked up half off a few weeks ago) in front of a fire in the fireplace, each with our laptops in front of us, and it is a wonderful way to spend the evening.
