letter of intent

And not the heraldic kind.
I'm entering Drachenwald's next Crown Tournament. In one month's time.
This morning I awoke to an email from Robert of Canterbury subjected "Are you sitting comfortably...?" containing a proposal I'd never expected to receive in my SCA career. Master Paul de Gorey is entering Crown, and his lady, Anne, prefers to be the king's mistress rather than his Queen. Robert wanted to know if I'd be interested in being Paul's consort.
My first response was "King Paul? How cool!" There are a handful of people that I would dearly love to see sit on thrones -- Robert and
bend_gules were two, and I'm still miffed that it was ID and not Drachenwald that they ruled, since that means I wasn't their subject;
jpgsawyer and
edith_hedingham are two more; and Paul is a fifth. I'm delighted and honored and excited and flattered at the thought that he might be king and that he'd be willing for me to be his queen.
So! The letter of intent went off last night, I've got to make travel plans and register for the event, and I suppose now I really do need to make Gwen some garb.
badgersandjam, I owe you a big sloppy kiss for listing the Oxford scriptorium event in the DT! For awhile I thought I hadn't attended enough events in the last 18 months, because I didn't see the scriptorium on the kingdom calendar online. But then Robert found it in the DT, so there we go!
To:
Their Royal Majesties of Drachenwald, Sven and Siobhan,
The Kingdom Seneschal, Duarte.
Notice of intent to contest crown tourney, Spring 2012.
Master Paul de Gorey and Lady Aryanhwy merch Catmael

Do you need some direction on baby garb? I wrote an article on garb for pregnancy, nursing and babies.

Date: 2012-03-02 01:56 am (UTC)When sewing for babies and small children, the biggest thing to realize is that they have huge heads, and you just *have* to do some sort of closure up the back. :) I mostly cheated and bought a single pattern for a simple shirt, put the snaps in the back instead of the front (snaps are easier than buttons, and you can get faux-pearl faced ones to mimic buttons), and extended the hemline out to gown length. Decorate as you please. She will spit up on it, so just be prepared for that!
In my neck of the woods the main concern tends to be towards making sure baby doesn't get overheated in the summer, so garb then tends to be something very loose and linen, or naked baby. (Well, with diaper.) For cooler weather you can always layer onesies and other closer-fitting modern wear underneath an outer tunic dress, and that way you don't have nakedbaby if she makes a REAL mess at some point.
Good luck keeping hoods on. :) Knit caps might work better. Oh! I did make a chaperone/mantle type hood for my toddler once, which was simply *adorable*, but I don't know how well that would work for a baby.
I believe I already gave all my baby garb away, or I'd have packed up a gift box for you by now. :)

Date: 2012-02-29 05:08 pm (UTC)And yes, the thought of King Paul amuses us no end. There will, at least, be plenty of beer and dancing.
For thems that are interested - Drachenwald lists are usually small, like fewer than 10 entrants. This one may be smaller still.
So typically, the lists are round-robin, so everyone who has hauled armour across Europe at least gets to fight everyone in the tournament.
In the regional rotation of kingdom events: If you win in the UK, Coronation is in Sweden or Finland in June, Crown in Germany or Austria in October, and stepping-down is back in the UK at 12th night. You always step down in the same region that you won the tourney.
...and of course, this is a summer reign. :-)

Date: 2012-02-29 05:12 pm (UTC)You've probably paid more attention to this than I have -- how often do the summer king/queen not go to Pennsic? (When is Pennsic this year? Does it clash with Raglan?)

Date: 2012-03-01 04:29 pm (UTC)Alaric and Nerissa attended Visby instead (and made Mad Hakon a Laurel, which is pretty cool).
You can appoint a warlord: someone like Sir Matthew, or Sir Marcus (Drachenwald expats living in AEthelmearc) or someone else who loves melee, to organise the ferocious D'wald spear squad - and a trusted royal peer to go to queens' teas and pass out gifties. :-)
