Hurrah for my wonderful husband who can troubleshoot problems even from long distance. We still have no idea what's wrong with my laptop, but he remembered that his old laptop was sitting on the shelf in the attic (I knew it was there, but I thought it had been upgraded because it didn't work, whereas in truth it got upgraded just because it was getting slow), and I swapped out the drive in there for the drive in my laptop, and I'm now up and running again and, crucially, have access to all the measurements I took Wednesday night. Of course, it took most of the evening, and lots of trans-Atlantic phone calls, to get this sorted out, but in the meantime I did hem the sleeves of Gwen's red tunic; I can't finish it without measuring the neckline to make sure it fits over her head, but since she was asleep I couldn't do that tonight. Still, I made some forward progress. Tomorrow: Shirt-sewing! (Or, if I'm not brave enough, some calligraphy. If I do one scroll this weekend, and one next weekend, then I'll be fine).

Summers are always quiet for universities, what with people going on vacation or traveling to conferences, but this week it's been absolutely dead out at TiLPS. (And even last week it was pretty low-key; I was pleased to see Thursday afternoon as I came back from refilling my tea that I was not the only one wandering the halls barefooted...) One or two days I ended up ducking out 10-15 minutes early, getting Gwen from daycare that much early, and coming home in order to catch a bit more of the Olympics on TV. At work I've been following the BBC's live text feed, which actually makes for a pretty exciting experience even without seeing things, and it covers all events at once rather than focusing on one at a time as the TV coverage does. I've also realized that since no one else is on my wing of the floor, even if I have my office door open, I can play my music without headphones and sing aloud with frightening anyone too badly. Today I was also surprised to arrive after dropping Gwen off to find my officemate and her parents packing up all of her stuff; she's heading back to Italy for a month or so before following her supervisor whose moving to Münich in September. Even though technically we've shared an office for a year, we haven't actually shared it all that often; I was on maternity leave from October to February, and then she was in Pittsburgh from February to mid-May. Nevertheless, it's always nice to share an office with someone; I wonder if I'll get anyone new before I leave in January, but I doubt it, since we're not strapped for office space here.

Oooh, if I were going (or knew someone from Drachenwald who was), I'd definitely put in an order; I love beads. Does she have a website?
