favorite Olympic moments so far
Aug. 4th, 2012 09:39 am(They're mostly British, since I've been following via the BBC, on TV and online).
- After Peter Wilson won the men's double trap gold and was interviewed by the BBC, at the end before the camera left him his dad comes into view and he shouts "Dad!" with such pure joy in his voice that you'd think seeing his father rivaled winning Olympic gold.
- At the pool the evening after the GB team won equestrian silver, and Clare Balding was asked about her reaction to it, and she was responding with tears in her eyes. One thing I like about BBC sport coverage is that the same people cover the same disciplines for years, and develop a real relationship with the athletes. It becomes more than just a job for them.
- An interview last night with Princes William and Harry when William commented how when they were in the audience during (I don't remember which sport) and during a lull there was a kissing-cam put up, and he sheepishly said he was sitting there hoping that it wouldn't pan to him and his wife. There was just something so sweet about how shy he seemed about the thought of being seen kissing his wife in public, on TV (considering that their wedding kiss was probably the most photographed/reproduced last yera!), and also about how he said "my wife", as if we wouldn't know whom he meant if he said "Kate" or "Katherine".
- Hearing this morning that Oscar Pistorius was going to be running the 400m. I remember the furor 4 years ago about his desire to particpate then, and finding out that he was going to be running in theese Olympics was just fantastic. And I've just checked the live feed, he came second in his heat and has qualified for the semis! Absolutely fantastic.
