Yesterday morning, I noticed Gwen, while on her stomach, plant her feet down and push off with them at the same time grabbing onto carpetting and pulling herself forward. There was a small amount of genuine forward motion. When I picked her up from daycare, Lonneke commented that she'd seen Gwen force herself forward a very small distance.

Today? I think she's figured it out. She just scooted herself forward about a meter (so that she could reach the lamp cord and chew on it, of course). It was clearly premeditated, and involved hands and feet/legs working in coordination.

And there's she's off again...!

Later on I left her up in her room to play while I tried to do some things downstairs; when I came back up, and she saw me, she pushed off with her legs and hauled with her arms and covered a good two meters to come to me.

It's very cute!

That's so lovely. My little niece has also just started moving forwardsand they're so adorable at that age.

Hurrah! What a thrill it is! I think I've said this before, but the crawling to walking window was short for us! SHORT! --Bunny

I'm wondering how short it will be for us...since we've gone from "hauling oneself along the ground" to "pulling oneself up on furniture" in one week, and someone else who was playing with her last week said she took some steps while having her hands held on to, it might be pretty short here too!

Yay!

I was going to mention on your last post that I recall when my oldest was learning to crawl, her first attempts had her always scooting *backwards*. And she'd get so very frustrated and angry and try again and again, crying and screeching every time she found herself going backwards, instead of forward. It was one of those comically sad moments. I think I got it on videotape somewhere. :)

But of course that stage lasted only a couple of days, and then she figured out the mystery and hasn't stopped since.

Oh, yes, the moving *farther* away from the desired object was definitely a cause of frustration. But now she's learned how to convert the "pushing backwards" motion into getting back into a sitting position, which is pretty marvelous.
