Yesterday as the conference winded down, the social event happened, and I headed back to the train station, that's when missing Gwen started kicking in. Thank goodness for lots of photos on my laptop and phone.

She was napping when I got home this morning around 10:30, and so was Joel, so I joined him in bed for two hours (I had the bottom bunk on the train this time, and it's significantly harder than the upper bunks. There were only 5 people in our car this time, so when I woke up around 1:30, I decided to move up to the bunk above me, which helped, but I was still pretty tired), until we heard Gwen making happy noises in her room. I was expecting a more enthusiastic response than I got when I went in to get her, but I think part of it was that she was still a bit tired. Later after she'd woken up a bit more, Joel commented on how happy she seemed.

He also said that it's pretty much impossible for him to work up in the attic with her anymore, since her military crawl now takes her pretty much everywhere. And while we were sitting on the floor in her room, she pushed herself up onto her hands and knees, and crawled a few steps that way! She hasn't repeated it since (I think the combination of bare knees on carpet made it possible, whereas pants on the wood floors cause her knees to slip out from beneath her), but it was really and truly crawling.

I'm amazed at how sturdy she is on her feet now, and how if I'm holding onto her hands, she'll walk up and down the length of the kitchen. If I'm holding her around her waste, she likes to bend over and pick things up, and while she still wobbles in terms of keeping her balance, her legs are strong and solid. While I expect it will still be awhile before real standing and walking starts, I also wouldn't be surprised if it happened in the next couple of weeks.

Her hair has gotten longer.

She's definitely made a transition in the last week and a half or so; I noticed it at Raglan, that when I hold her on my lap, she feels more like a toddler and less like a baby. Monday night when it was so hot, I snapped a picture of her after she finally fell asleep, and she looks so long and leggy:

Gwen

She's still a solid, sturdy little girl, but her proportions are changing. Some of the 74/80 onesies are a bit hard to snap, though she can still wear size 68 pants!

I'm looking forward to this transition into a new stage.
