That game between Switzerland and Ukraine was just horrendous. I thought last night's match between Holland and Portugal was outrageous (more like a brawl than a game), but this about equalled it, just on the opposite end of the spectrum. For the last forty minutes or so, Joel and I were glued to the screen wondering "Can it really remain this bad?" The answer? Yes, it sure could...
(Side note: I can't believe I'm actually writing a post about soccer. The second game of the World Cup was the first soccer game I'd ever watched, and I've actually been following things moderately closely. For awhile I had two teams to vote for, but now I guess I'm down to rooting for England. I figure, I might as well root for the people that are allowing me to watch the games with good commentary. I've found a Dutch channel where I've watched two of the games not shown on the BBC, but it isn't the same when you don't know what's being said by the commentators, especially if you're not clear on the actual rules of the game.)

. . . Isn't that the definition of insanity: the same thing keeps happening to you over and over, and yet you keep thinking the outcome will change somehow?
