on the road again

aryanhwySpent most of the day in the car, driving from North Lake to Carroll. This journey seems to get longer and longer each time we do it, as opposed to the usual where a much-travelled itinerary gets shorter and shorter. We spent most of the last hour or so listening to the mournful, plaintive plea of "food, food, food" from the back seat. Someone was hungry...
Otherwise, Gwen did very well on the trip. This morning she woke up around 5:30am (a BIG improvement!), but she still has such a sleep deficit, due to lack of nappings, that she slept the first two hours, until we reached Mineral Point where we had lunch at the Brewery Creek brewpub -- a place recommended to Joel by the person he sat next to on the flight from Frankfurt to Chicago. We definitely second and third the recommendation; great food and great beer. She slept again in the afternoon, and before and after that there was only some small periods of whining, and a few of "mommy. mommy. mommy", just saying it for the sake of something to say.
It's fun seeing how she pays attention to Joel's and my conversations, and how she is beginning to try to join in on them. Joel and I saw some sheep out the window and were commenting on them to each other, and then we heard from the back seat "sheep, sheep!" Joel looked back, and saw she was pointing to a sheep in one of her books. We were talking about sheep, and she had a relevant sheep experience to share, so she did! Another time, we passed a grain elevator and were talking about it, and from the back we hear "Gwennie elevator! Library!" Because there was an elevator in the North Lake library that she got to ride up and down a few times. We had to explain to her that it was a different type of elevator.
We got in to Carroll somewhat later than planned, but still early enough that supper was timed about right. After a good meal, she played with Grandpa some, and then announced "naptime!" and pretty much went straight to bed, at roughly her normal bed time, for the first time in a week. I sure hope this means she'll sleep until about 7:00!

Date: 2013-11-22 09:29 pm (UTC)I remember logging in our first "conversation" with D on LJ. We were completely surprised. And it was wonderful!! She then moved on to making her own conversations with others in our buildings. It was such an exciting time. Now she is just back to her bashful self, so it's taking the neighbors in the building a little baffled!
