I don't really have any good excuse for not posting yesterday, other than ordinary mundanity -- was up with Gwen at 5:00am (though I got to hand her off to Grandma and go back to bed half an hour later), went shopping with Joel, spent the evening with a high school friend of his, someone we haven't seen since his wedding, which was just a few weeks after we got engaged, i.e., just over 10 years ago! -- and no significant desire to post because I had to rather than because I had something to say.

--

The other day I was uploading photos to flickr, and just happened to notice that at that moment, I had 2,000 photos uploaded. Minus maybe a dozen and a half which are self-portraits that I took of Slinky trying to curl up on my very pregnant belly, the rest are all of Gwen. 2,000 photos in 2 years equals about 3 photos per day on average, which means she is one extremely well documented child. I've caught almost every first on photo (which is handy when Amy asks me "at what age did Gwen do X?" and I can usually respond, hang on, let me find the photo").

Some people say, if you take that many pictures, you'll never look back on them, it's just too many. Granted, I'm only two years in to this parenting gig, but I don't find that to be the case. I like to randomly pick a time and flip through the photos from that time. Some of them I remember very distinctly, some of them are surprises to me when I look back on them. And I love seeing the progression, seeing that, yes, she is getting older, she is getting bigger, she is getting more hair. In particular, with her recent birthday I've enjoyed looking at the pictures of her from her 1st birthday. She's just so much bigger.

And as she gets older, we are beginning to accidentally collect pictures in roughly the same place and same arrangement, in particular, on my parents'-in-law's couch:

Wow. Let's ignore the fact that I'm wearing the same outfit this year as last.

ha ha! My in-laws went and bought me new clothes because of that! sigh… but hey it still looks good and just a coincidence!

Wonderful pics! I love pictures that end up like this! You get to see the changes in everyone, especially Gwen, of course!

Note the vest in the second rendition of the outfit: A gift from my in-laws last Christmas. :)

well, you added a vest to the outfit. That counts for something, right? (Please tell me it does, because with only three maternity shirts with long sleeves, I'm planning on getting a lot of mileage out of vests, etc, this winter!) ;)

It does count! That vest was a gift from my in-law's last Christmas, and it has gotten worn pretty much year round. I'm often cold, but I hate having bulky things on my arms, especially when I'm typing, and this vest is particularly nice because it keeps the back of my neck warm, something I've learned is very important.

Amazing Pics...Gwen looks so transformed through the pics.

Your FIL's expression is priceless same in all pics... I had hardly noticed your outfit till you pointed it.

2000 pics is awesome. I ranged 1000 pics of F in the first year. I just had to get it all. I have slowed down already. :-)

Yeah, Bernie isn't so good about posed photos; that's why I love candids, because the matching grins he and Gwen have when they play together are awesome.
