end of year recap

aryanhwyOooh, I've forgotten to do my usual "post the first line of the first entry from each month of 2013 and see what kind of unusual paragraph I get" meme. So here goes:
Last year, Gwen woke up a few minutes before midnight to eat, and thus I was awake for NYE, completely unplanned. Ever since I started picking my own music to listen to as a kid, I've been a bit of a fixater: I'll pick something and listen to it over and over and over (not necessarily exclusively of other things) for a few months (or more), and then take a break, and find something new. The runs ran through daycare, and caught Gwen on Thursday (one of the last to be caught), so we were asked to keep her home on Friday. Gwen and I arrived in Lisbon around noon on Tuesday, and stepping outside of the airport to walk to the bus stop I drank in the heady scent of sun and ocean and wind, and fell in love all over again with this wonderful city. I find it a bit unfortunate when I don't necessarily look forward to public holidays because it means Gwen's daycare is closed and thus I have to entertain her all day long. Not often I can say this about a weekend day at home. Gwen and I have made it safely from San Antonio to Carroll. Things have been pretty peaceful since I got back from Geneva. Just over 14 years ago, I looked out an airplane window through the breaking clouds and saw red-tile roofs unlike any I’d ever seen before. I've got two longish posts I want to write (maybe today? It's German Unification today, i.e., a holiday, which means I don't have to work...but it also means daycare is closed so I'm home with Gwen. She's currently sitting on Joel's lap eating his oatmeal away from him), but in the meantime, I want to put down in writing a recent cute story so I don't forget it. As the seasons change and fall comes around, I always get a hankering for caramel apples -- or rather, caramel sauce to dip apple slices in, because then you get more caramel! We're hosting today.
Huh. I think previous years have been more intelligible, and also less verbose.
