I've started reviewing every (new) book that I read Goodreads. I am somewhat behind; I've got 4-5 that I have read but haven't reviewed yet, so that combined with the 42 reviews that are up there means I've been reading about 1 new book per week this year.
I've got at least month/year for them all, and actual dates for many simply because if I don't review them right away after finishing them, I won't get to them for months!
Oh, I rate them right away as well - I also won't get to it otherwise. But it's not generally important to me to record the date I finished. (I know I read a lot. The idea of a challenge to read 20 books in a year is laughable. I sometimes read that many in four to six weeks.)
I struggled to do 20 (new) books in a year living in the Netherlands and Germany, because access to English-language fiction was tough. I am so totally loving the Durham public library, even though it is laughably paltry in its offerings. The 42 I've read and rated this year don't count any of my re-reads, so I'm sure my average is over 1/week.
It makes me happy to be at a life stage -- i.e., not writing a PhD, not exhausted from having a baby, not in a world that doesn't read in English -- that I can get back to my usual reading habits. I've been a lot happier this year.
