my daughter just went to the grocery store all by herself

I needed a lemon. I gave her two pounds (I was pretty sure one lemon was less than a pound, but I also figured I'd overshoot to prevent any problems). I walked her to the zebra crossing half a block from the store and sent her off the rest of the way on her own. (SHE wanted me to walk her to the end of our block and let her go the rest of the way herself -- about four blocks total -- but I figure, we'll take it one step at a time.)

And she came back with a lemon.

How did this happen? How did she suddenly grow up so much?

Did you do this sort of errand when you were little, or was there nowhere to walk to?

Nowhere to walk to. We were firmly in the suburbs.

We had convenience stores, and until my family moved, an ice-cream shop and a gift shop that had china animals. Nothing as practical as a grocery store, though!
