I just spent the last hour or so going through 1300+ photos weeding out ones that are junk, ones that are duplicates, ones that are from Joel's trip to Paris and so I would have nothing to say about, and ones from the conference just hosted here in Paris (so, it's down to 529), so that hopefully not too long from now I can upload them to my webpage. (When they get commentary is another question...there's A LOT of material here. Our trip to Berlin. My trip to Hamburg and Lübeck. Random pictures of kitties, cute husbands, and Thanksgiving.) As I was going through the pictures, especially the ones of Berlin, which are just steeped in rather recent history, I felt a strong realization creeping over me...

...I am living a life far better than my wildest dreams as a child. Sometimes when the stress hits, when I wonder when we'll have real jobs and kids, when it seems like that degree is so far off, I tend to forget just exactly how good I've got it. When I was a kid, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would ever get to travel as much, see as much, do as much in my entire life as I have done this last year. And I've got so many years ahead of me still.

I sometimes feel the same way. When I was a kid, I wanted to work for NASA, someday, but I also wanted to be a fireman, too. Now, I really am at NASA. I'm a lucky guy.

When I was a kid, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would ever get to travel as much, see as much, do as much in my entire life as I have done this last year.

Isn't it odd how sometimes you can look at your life and just sort of be amazed? :)
