things that make me happy

- Growing up, my mom had a circular chex party mix tin with pictures of party mix in each of the four seasons around the outside. Party mix just isn't party mix if it isn't eaten out of one of these tins. Right before we moved, I bought one for myself on ebay, but it was too fragile to pack and bring with. I was able to bring it on my carry-on luggage when we came back from our trip, and since we also bought wheat and corn chex and decent pretzels, I made a batch of party mix today, and put it in to my very own party mix tin.

- My husband. On Friday, we celebrated 5 years of being together. All things considered, these have been five excellent years.

- Being tan again. I'm not one who goes out and bathes in the sun, and usually I think really dark tans just look gross. But I'm also one who when very pale tends to turn green, and I like the way my hands look with a bit of sun to them. A week in Greece (even with sunscreen) was just the trick. I'm also enjoying the fact that my hair is lighter now than it probably has ever been in the last 10 years.

Happy is good. Having things that make you that way is very good. I hope you and your sweetie continue on in this fashion for years to come. David and I will be married 17 years Aug 11 . . . it's a good thing.

Back when i was a young'un, you couldn't buy ready-made party mix. But the recipe was on every box of Chex.

Yup. I use the version that my mom adapted from a box way back in the early 80's. Those new fangled version just don't taste right, and do horrible things like adding cheese bits and bagel chips.
