joining the crowd
Aug. 15th, 2007 09:02 pmOver the years I've sporadically made efforts to put together a catalog of my books. These efforts tended to fail before I made any type of dent, because I got sick of having to paw through each book to find the relevant info. This is why LibraryThing looked so appealing when seeing it on my LJ friends page. For about 75% of my books, I can type in the title, double check the publication year, and *poof* add the book with a single click.
Of course, at 200 titles for a free account, the system isn't really feasable for me. On the other hand, $25 for life isn't that bad. I figure I'll input 200 books and then see how I feel. So far I've only gotten so far as putting in most of the books on the first two shelves of my desk. <smug>Of the 46 I've put in, 11 are not found in any other library</smug>.
So, for those who are curious (and yes, I'm willing to scan and email or photocopy and mail any relevant sources for purposes of documentation): http://www.librarything.com/profile/Aryanhwy.

I shudder to think of what would happen if I input Ye Really Olde Bookse - and of the email I'd get from inquisitive people.
.....hey, that might actually be a good point, come to think of it.

Date: 2007-08-16 10:08 am (UTC)My wife originally signed us up, so it's under her username: teenap
We have nine books in common so far (all on the "no-photocopy list, oddly enough).
I was actually surprised by some of the unique books that I have... Diez Melcon's "Apellidos castellano-leoneses", for instance. I thought at least one or two others would have it. Some of them are no surprise, though, like the Arabic Computer Dictionary or the Russian Military Dictionary.

Date: 2007-08-16 10:10 am (UTC)If I catalog only the books we brought with or which I've acquired since moving, I'll easily reach the 200 book limit. And we brought with less than 1/6 of the books we own.
