It started off with the usual Sunday morning stay-in-bed-with-the-husband followed up with waffles for breakfast (a particularly good batch, too, very light and fluffy). I then got out my paints and brushes and finished up a project I had started yesterday. This was the first time I'd tried the two brushes that mom had helped me pick out when I was visiting. I like them a lot; I feel like I have much more control with them than with the other two brushes I'd picked out for myself, and I have a lot more success with fine detail work. I'm very happy with the result of the two days; but I won't post a link here to it until it's received by the intended recipient, since s/he reads here and I don't want to give away the surprise. There's only so long I can spend hunched over the kitchen table, so I took regular breaks to curl up on the couch in the sun with a cat and a book. The day ended up (and it's not even 9pm!) with Joel and I making a double batch of pea soup, which isn't just any old pea soup, but pea soup with varkenkarbonade (pork something-or-other), rookwurst (smoked wurst), and speklappen (fatty bacon), two packages of flat-leaf parsley and a bag of fancy soup-mix vegetables (carrots, celery, cawliflower, red pepper, leak, and a few other things; yeah, I feel a bit dumb buying pre-mixed soup vegetables, but it's fast, convenient, and just about as cheap), and in between bits when there wasn't anything for me to do, I whipped up a batch of chocolate chip cookies the first pan of which came out just as the soup was ready for dishing up. I feel very accomplished.

Sounds like a lovely day :)

Don't sweat the veggie mixes! Sometimes they can be even better value than buying things individually. I also find they can sometimes turn into a new experience in that they combine veg in ways that I would never have considered (but thus far it's always been a success). For instance in your case I would never have considered cauliflower has a soup veg, but I bet it comes out quite nice.

Funny -- cauliflower has always been a soup veg in my family. It was the red peppers that were new to me! I never thought of putting bell peppers into soup before.

and with the pre-cut veggies there is less chance of you slicing off an appendage, which is something I try and avoid at all costs, being a klutz. :-)

All sounds yummy (and I am not really a home-made soup fan).
